Search that follows a real location hierarchy
The location field is the part worth studying first. The vendor allows up to four nested levels, so a search form can run Country > State > City > Area, with the hierarchy managed in the WordPress admin and the number of levels and their labels set in the customizer. That is a different job from a flat city dropdown,.
The rest of the search form is treated as configurable rather than fixed. You can hide fields, add new ones, change what appears in their dropdowns, set minimum and maximum prices, and adjust the behaviour and values of the beds and baths selectors. An Elementor widget exposes the search form for page building, so the form can be placed outside the theme's own templates.
Maps default to OpenStreetMap, not Google
RealHomes uses OpenStreetMap by default, according to the vendor. Entering a Google Maps API key switches the map provider. This separates the theme's map display from the Google account and billing arrangements that an operator would need to manage.
Who can submit a listing, and who gets paid
RealHomes supports front-end property submission, which means you can keep contributors out of the WordPress admin and give them a form instead. Submitted properties can be held for an administrator or editor to review before publishing, or set to auto-publish once payment clears.
Payment is handled two ways: a fee for an individual property, or bulk submissions under a membership package. PayPal and Stripe are the named gateways, and both the payment step and auto-publishing can be switched off in settings, which lets the same theme run a free-submission directory or a paid one. Logged-in users manage their own listings from the front end — preview, edit, remove, and pay to publish — and can edit their profile without entering wp-admin.
Agent records are connected to user accounts: the vendor describes automatic agent creation for a registered user, with that agent's details synced to the profile. That matters if your site presents listings as "listed by" a named agent rather than an anonymous office.
Tools that work before someone signs up
Two visitor features are deliberately login-free. Favourites are saved in the browser for guests and in user meta for logged-in members, and the compare pool lets visitors stack properties side by side without an account. Accounts matter for contributing and managing listings, not for browsing.
What a property page can hold
Beyond the standard fields, the theme adds a cloneable "additional details" field, so you can attach as many extra facts to a listing as the property type demands. Floor plans can be uploaded from the admin or from the front-end submission dashboard. Attachments accept files such as PDFs, office documents and images, which suits brochures, surveys and title documents.
Two detail-page modules are less common and more interesting. Similar properties can be configured by criteria and ordering in the customizer. Child properties let one listing hold any number of subordinate listings — apartments within a building, for example — and each child behaves as a full property in its own right, with its own page and search presence. For developers selling units off-plan, that is a structurally different approach from duplicating a parent listing.
Vacation rentals, and why IDX is optional
Activating the bundled vacation rentals plugin repurposes the default search form into a rentals form, and the vendor's additions list mentions bookings and payments plus front-end reservation and invoice management. If short-stay rentals are the whole business rather than a side line, check the booking flow in the demo — dates, availability and pricing rules are where rental systems usually diverge.
iHomefinder Optima Express IDX support is described as an add-on, not a requirement. The vendor is explicit that the theme works without it: you can add, edit, remove, search and list properties using only the theme and its included plugins. IDX becomes relevant if you need to syndicate an MLS feed, and the listing references a demo with 200+ MLS providers through that plugin.
